Kaiut Method FAQ
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS KAIUT YOGA?
Kaiut Yoga is yoga that any body can do. It’s ideal for adults with chronic aches & pains, for those who are not flexible, don't like yoga or believe yoga is not for them. Created in Brazil by chiropractor Francisco Kaiut, it has a growing following worldwide. This unique method works from inside the joints to maintain the body close to its optimal mobility.
HOW IS KAIUT YOGA DIFFERENT?
Kaiut Yoga brings us into awareness in unexpected ways, using subtle movements to counteract the bio-mechanical impact of aging and the habits that restrict mobility. The practice is mostly done on the floor using prolonged positions that allow time and gravity to work for us.
The focus in the practice is not on getting the “perfect” pose but rather on exploring how the pose feels from inside. The purpose of the Kaiut method is to help us walk, bend, and move when we are 85!
I’VE NEVER DONE YOGA BEFORE/I’M NOT FLEXIBLE/I’VE GOT ARTHRITIS WOULD THIS HELP ME?
Yes, this practice is great for beginners and for those with bodies that may be stiff or less flexible due to various factors including stress, and out sitting lifestyles – even if you are in your 20’s or 30s. Kaiut Yoga is suitable for any body. Whether you are an experienced yogi or have never done yoga before, your body-mind will benefit from the calming and aligning effects of Kaiut yoga.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN A CLASS?
Kaiut Yoga is practiced mostly on the floor, with eyes closed. The teacher does not demonstrate any of the poses, but guides you with their voice in order to allow you to enter a calm state of mind and experience the poses from the inside, without too much visual distractions. Each class is 1 hour in duration. Poses are held for varying lengths of time, building intensity through the longer holds - this allows you to calibrate the pose, becoming increasingly aware of the restrictions and habitual positions in your hips, ankles, shoulders, neck, spine, etc.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Mats & props are supplied. Wear comfortable clothes that will allow you to move in various positions. You can also bring a bottle of water, but no food, please.
